Check before you fill

Cavity wall insulation can cut heat loss through the walls of a typical 1930s to 1980s home by a third or more. It is also the measure most often installed badly. Filling a cavity that is too narrow, bridged with debris, or in a wall that is exposed to driving rain can lead to damp patches and cold spots that are expensive to put right.

Eco Home Co carries out an independent suitability survey so you know whether your walls are a good candidate, and what type of fill is appropriate, before an installer arrives.

What the survey covers

• Confirmation that the walls are of cavity construction and the cavity width
• Borescope inspection to check for existing insulation, debris and wall ties
• Exposure rating of the property and condition of the external walls, pointing and render
• Damp-proof course, ground levels, air bricks and flue positions
• Signs of existing damp or condensation that need resolving first
• Advice on bead, mineral wool or foam systems and the guarantees that should come with them
