Suspended timber floors are common in homes built before the 1950s and are a major source of draughts and heat loss. Air from the ventilated void below passes straight through the gaps between boards. Insulating between the joists, with a breathable membrane to hold it in place, makes rooms noticeably warmer and reduces heating demand. Solid concrete floors can also be insulated, usually when the floor is being replaced or built up.
A photographic report and specification that can be priced by a builder or insulation installer, and a note of any ventilation or repair work that must come first so that the floor stays dry.
The survey is only the first step. Once you have the report, Graham can obtain quotations from the accredited suppliers he works with regularly, such as SPS South, manage the installation and inspect the finished work before you make the final payment. See how the one stop shop works.
