Replace, repair or switch?

When a boiler reaches the end of its life you face a choice. A modern condensing gas boiler is still the simplest replacement for many homes, but oversized boilers, poor controls and badly balanced systems waste a great deal of gas. For some homes a heat pump will make more sense.

Our survey looks at the whole heating system and gives you a clear recommendation you can take to any Gas Safe registered installer, or we can arrange the replacement through our one stop shop partners.

What the survey covers

• Heat loss calculation so the new boiler is sized correctly rather than guessed
• Condition of radiators, pipework, valves and whether a system flush is needed
• Hot water demand and the choice between combi, system and regular boilers
• Heating controls, zoning, weather compensation and smart thermostats
• Flue position, condensate drain and ventilation requirements
• A straight comparison with an air source heat pump including grants and running costs

Why it matters

A correctly sized boiler running at lower flow temperatures with good controls can use noticeably less gas than the same boiler installed with default settings. The report gives installers a specification to quote against and a commissioning checklist.
